With these activities, we'll look at spelling as a building-block to vocabulary and literacy, not just something to be memorized. In doing this, students will learn word-roots and word-families, and how spelling fits into a larger picture. There will be an end-of-semester competition that the students can work towards, and there will be benefits for their overall vocabulary development as well. Once a student learns how words are put together, an overall picture starts to form, and spelling becomes far easier!
